We're so excited to host BÉYU in our Malibu and Nolita stores this weekend, July 31st - August 1st! Bobbie Johnson, the founder, CEO, and designer, is such an inspiring woman. All of her pieces are handmade in Houston, Texas, and she has both original designs and super unique repurposed pieces. BÉYU focuses on sustainability- which I love. Her designs are so cool- think neutral colors, effortlessly chic, model-off-duty vibes. Bobbie emphasizes loving who you are in all forms and loving and giving back to our planet. Read on to learn about who inspires her and to get her best advice for aspiring brand owners.
Hope to see you this weekend! xx

Who/what inspires you?
If we're talking artists, definitely Solange Knowles. She is so minimal and neutral but always makes a statement with whatever she's wearing. I'm inspired by 90s/ early 2000s movies. & of course Instagram, specifically earthlike aesthetics and brands.
How did you get started?
Tumblr around 2011! During that time thrifting and repurposing just became a thing, I would thrift and add studs/patches, make shorts. etc. Soon after, I started to make my own clothes and custom orders. All of this was with my best friend's sewing machine, she let me borrow it since no one ever used it.
Obsessed with this skirt
What’s your favorite thing about being a brand owner?
My favorite thing as a brand owner is randomly seeing someone in my brand, they have no idea who I am but it still makes my day. Also I love being able to say that she's completely mine, no investors.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My typical work day consists of checking emails & IG first thing, writing a priority list of what I absolutely need to complete that day, cut or sew depending which day it is.
This stuff is soooooo good... definitley need this green top!
What’s your best advice for someone looking to start out on their own?
